Provenance: By direct descent through the family.

The eldest daughter of Harriet Ann (Sharp) and Thomas Lever Rushton (1810-1833) of Cross and Rushton Solicitors; and of Hardcastle, Cross and Co Bank, Chair of Bolton Iron works and Bolton waterworks committee, Mayor of Bolton; President of Bolton Law Society; Chair of Bolton's first school Board; Treasurer of Bolton Infirmary along with other local hospitals and convalescing charities.

Married to Arthur Henry Sykes of Edgeley Mount, Stockport in 1868. She greatly enjoyed raising monies for charities which concentrated on Stockport living conditions and public health and education as well as politics, being the Dame President of the Primrose League in 1898.

Mother to Herbert Rushton Sykes (married Hon. Constance Skeffington daughter of 11th Viscount of Masserene and 4th Viscount of Ferrard) and to Mabel (married Claude Campbell).
