Catalogue Description

A 19th century fully fitted Indian carved stationery / work box in hardwood and inlaid mosaic ivory and stringing. The lid and outer sides extensively carved with dancers and figures holding bows and swords within arches (possibly relating to a Hindu legend of Rama), and a repeating foliate pattern to the borders; the upper fitted interior with nine lidded compartments carved with leaves and foliage with a removable mirrored lid to the underside, the fitted interior below with compartments fitted in red velvet, the lid with a further compartment with ivory lock, finished with brass handles (one broken but present), some wear, 27cmW x 20cmD x 13cmH, together with a further carved box with ivory banding
