Lot 113: 1965 Wolseley 6/110 Mk II
To be sold at our Classic Car and Automobilia Sale on 19th Oct 2013
1965 Wolseley 6/110 Mk II
DKT 221 C Originally the property of Lord Kenneth Clark of Saltwood Castle, Kent. The celebrated author and writer/presenter of the epochal "Civilisation" BBC TV series. A rare Wolseley 6/110 saloon. This Mk II was supplied on 16th July 1965 by Saltwood Garage in Kent to its famous and titled first owner Lord Kenneth Clark of nearby Saltwood Castle. Lord Clark clearly loved the car as the registration documents show that he kept it until 1982, this meaning that not only was this he vehicle of choice during both the writing and production of his seminal BBC Television series "Civilisation" - but his elder son, the late MP and notorious "petrol head" Sir Alan Clark must also undoubtedly have taken the wheel during the Wolseley's 17 years at Saltwood Castle. The car shows a recorded total of 31,041 miles, which, with a number of old MOT certificates and a certification document from 8th October 1981 verifying the mileage as 20,439, there is little reason to doubt this being a genuine figure. The car comes with a decent history file, including these certificates, plus a driver's hand-book, workshop manual, many photographs and a number of tax discs, the most recent of which expired on 31st July 2012. Now in need of a sympathetic new owner, the car drives very well, but has some cosmetic issues that will need attention. In the auction houses' view it is a very deserving candidate for a running restoration and was indeed driven to the salesrooms for cataloguing, all be it on Trade Plates.
Price Achieved: £1750.00
