Lot 111: 1963 Rambler Ambassador V8 saloon KGJ 618

To be sold at our Classic Car and Automobilia Sale on 19th Oct 2013

Catalogue Description

1963 Rambler Ambassador V8 saloon KGJ 618

A  The Rambler Motor Company operated in the United Kingdom from offices in Chiswick. They had a small but loyal customer base who eschewed Mk II Jaguars and the more common place British executive cars for right hand drive Americana, made in Canada. This car was first registered on 26th April 1964 to a Mr Beale of Weybridge. He had requested a number of extra features, including a Bentley style revolution counter, which remains fitted to the car. Mr Beale kept the car and used it daily for a decade, before laying it up "pending a refurbishment" - he did this because of the Petrol Crisis of 1973/74. Other than having the car looked at once with a view to putting it back on the road, and taking his private registration (LPC 1) off the vehicle, it lay dormant for many a year until Mr Beale's death when it was sold at Bonhams Beaulieu sale.   After this sale the car passed through two dealer's hands, being featured in Classic Car Weekly on its way to a full mechanical restoration, the final stages of which have been recently finished by Jeff Marshall's "Fins 'n' Chrome". The car is expected to come to the sale with a fresh MOT and 12 months (free) road tax. With its automatic gear box and 5.3 litre V8 engine, this will provide some lucky new owner with relaxed period "Cruizing" and to quote Rambler Motors' letter to Mr Beale in June 1963 "I do not think there will be six cars like yours in any one place for some time to come." I'd feel "EVER" to be more accurate today, and would commend any interested potential purchaser to view the fascinating history file which accompanies this car - containing as it does sales brochures, letters to and from the agents and even two "new old stock" ignition key blanks!

Price Achieved: £5000.00
