John Collier Double Portrait comes to Market

Posted On: 19 Apr 2022 by Isaac Goodwin

Busby in Bridport is delighted to bring to market for the first time an exceptional full length double portrait by John Collier (1850 - 1934) in their Fine Art & Antiques sale on May 19th, 2022. The painting, which stands six foot high, portrays Dulcie and Joyce Glass Hooper, posed in matching dress, holding hands aloft. The sisters were painted after the death of their mother, in Collier's studio with furnishings from their home in Palace Court, Bayswater. It is said the two sisters hated each other and would attend separate sittings. They were only together in the studio for the final sitting when the hands were painted. It will be offered with an estimate of £30,000 - £50,000. Photograph: Lettice and Beatrice Busby looking on at their Great-Great Aunt and their Great Grandmother in the saleroom in Bridport, Dorset
